Business & Sports: How I’m Balancing Both Without Losing My Mind
Hey sis—
Whew. If you’ve ever found yourself answering emails in the carpool line or editing a Canva graphic in the stands at a basketball game, just know you are not alone. I see you, I am you, and I promise, we’re gonna get through this—edges intact and sanity semi-preserved.
Balancing my business and my kids’ sports schedule feels like a full-time job on top of my full-time job. I’ve got teenagers in basketball, a toddler who thinks he’s a professional announcer, and a son in college who plays football. Add that to my brands (Half Mom, Half Boss and Purposeful Press), and let’s just say—my planner stays full, and my coffee stays hot (or reheated…twice).
Let me break down how I’m actually making it all work right now—because no, I don’t have a nanny, and nope, I’m not Superwoman… just a mama with a calling, a calendar, and a little faith.
1. Everything Goes in the Calendar—Even “Chill Time”
I live and breathe by my calendar. Games, practices, client calls, shirt drop-offs, podcast interviews—it all goes in there. I even block time for “sit in the car and breathe” or “target therapy” runs. If it’s not on the schedule, it doesn’t exist.
Sunday evenings are my sacred time to plan. I light a candle, pray over my week, and map out where I need to be. Is it perfect? No. But it helps me walk into Monday feeling like I’m leading, not just reacting.
2. Batch Work is My BFF
If I try to create content on the fly every day, it’s chaos. So I batch. I’ll spend one afternoon recording a few reels, writing captions, or prepping emails. That way, during basketball games, I can actually watch my kid (or at least pretend to while I post).
Same with orders for Purposeful Press—I’ll print and pack in blocks of time. And yes, sometimes I’ve got my toddler helping me “sort” shirts. It’s chaotic. It’s cute. It’s my real life.
3. Grace Over Guilt
Listen. There are days I miss a play or forget to send an email. Days when dinner is Chick-fil-A (again) and I’m folding laundry at midnight. And while the guilt tries to creep in, I’ve learned to extend myself the grace I’d give my best friend.
The truth is: I’m doing my best. And if I mess up? That doesn’t mean I’m not called to this. It just means I’m human.
4. I Involve My Kids in the Business
One of the best things I’ve done? Letting my kids be part of what I’m building. My daughters help with content ideas and packing orders. They’ll even give me outfit advice for my “Get Ready With Me” reels (when they’re in the mood). My toddler is the unofficial hype man, and my college son? He’s proud of me. That’s motivation right there.
5. Faith Keeps Me Grounded
This whole journey? It’s not just about making sales or building a brand. It’s purpose-driven. God gave me these babies and these dreams. So I trust that He’ll give me the grace, strategy, and strength to walk them both out—even when I’m running from a gym to a studio and back home to make dinner.
So if you’re in a season where it feels like you’re doing all the things, just know: you’re not crazy, you’re just a mom boss making it happen. And you don’t have to do it perfectly—you just have to keep showing up.
We’re in this together.
Half Mom, Half Boss… 100% capable.
